while getting to know them, i ask a lot of questions. and i manage to insert a few ideas and opinions.

mikaela told me she was thinking about moving to arizona and going to school there. but she was apprehensive. i get it! its scary to move away from everything you know and try something new.

its scary to do a lot of things in this life. i heard once that what scares you, you run towards it. do it! reward and experience are waiting for you!

i encouraged mikaela with this thought, saying that if it doesnt work out you can move back, right? when she came in for her session her mom said that she had decided to go ahead and move to AZ and that i had influenced her decision! how cool is that?? it pretty much made my day! i’m so excited for her to take this on, i know its going to be GREAT!

she is complex.

i have the BEST neighbors downstairs, a shop that is full of goodies and eye candy you’ll want to buy EVERYTHING in the place!

the modern cottage company 311 s 7th st. they are open fridays and saturdays and by appointment at other times. thank you meredith for letting me borrow your beautiful piece!

this applies to a couple things.

one, how long i’ve known this girl kaliee. i met her mom misty through a good friend and photographed their family.  misty and i were talking and i turns out that was about 4 years ago! it feels like a year or two. seriously. kaliee is so beautiful, the weather was amazing, and her fam came with too her parents are divorced but they both came for her session (along with bro). it makes me so happy when parents who arent together can come together for their kids, i love the unity in that.

the other part about how time flies…the amount of time that has passed since i’ve updated my blog! crap, i guess i fall into that imperfect human category   i’ve always been an advocate for keeping up to date with your blog or dont do a blog!  well, i’m not going to stop blogging, so i will pick myself up and start again! you know its bad when your good friend stacey calls and says “dude, update your blog”. ok, ok, i’m on it!

this was one of those shoots…that was so amazing…for a multiple of reasons…

lets start with max’s beautiful facial structure. oh. my. gawwwwwwwd. seriously. i dont think he has a bad angle and that is so very unusual in a face.

now lets talk about the lighinting. yes yes yes yes yes yes yes! like jump up and down yes! i love the DRAMA.

then there is the background. a project that was recently completed and max what only the second person i photographed with it (not counting my sister sylvie helping me set up some lighting, thanks sister!). i am in LOVE with my creation! the look is vintage ceiling tiles (made out of thin foam) that i painted and dry brushed with a pewter color. i’ve havent done that much painting and no decorative painting, ever. granted, my first tile looks a little different than the other tiles…

and then, during the shoot, i asked max how he ended up using me. i’m not the least expensive photographer out there. max did this shoot for the cover of his mix tape, “unreasonably late”. he explained to me the process, the work he has put into it and the time. he wanted someone he could count on to deliver. believed in paying more for quality. i love it!  it was really the icing on the cake

i know i say it all the time but i have to say it again- I LOVE MY JOB!

BEAUTIFUL!

our job as humans, is to give something to the other people around you. a smile. a word. a listen.

to feel. to love. to be connected. that’s what i want out of each session. i want to create/find feelings in people. i want to be connected. i feel that way when i have an opportunity to photograph these amazing BOBMSHELLS. in the beginning, many are not convinced that they are a bombshell. its a process. its an experience. and i get to be a part of that. so fulfilling!

so, this session…the beautiful vintage dress is from vanity on 6th ave. couldnt have been any more perfect

and downstairs from the studio is this new store called the modern cottage company, the location with the vintage dress. alison has created all of these perfectly beautiful pieces of furniture and such. she was nice enough to let us photograph in her shop, i am so excited to have her as our neighbor!  :)

i share this amazing space with some fellow photographers. they are super cool people and i’m glad to call them my mates! i was watching boardwalk empire the other day and decided it was time for another image crew play date inspired by the show (us studiomates, we are the image crew, gotta have a name, right?).

so. much. FUN! we had our first time model, and hairstylist, paige (long hair),  my local muse, brie, the fashionista (short red hair, this girl can put together pretty much any type of style/character/whatever you can think up, plus her awesome friend sent some beautiful vintage pieces for us to use), and our gorgeous, super sexy,  in love couple, studiomate tobias and his wife angela, were our models for the day. our girl athena renee artistry was on makeup (of course), and kristal clark styled the outfits for us. oh. yeah. collaboration!!

and the other part that worked so well was the sets. our friend kim alexander created some sets for us that are absolutely puuuuurrrrfect a couple months ago. she put things together in a way only her beautifully creative brain can. i am surrounded by awesomeness, love it!

so i had a hard time narrowing these down…this is the best i could do! nothing wrong with 20 images in a post, right? who cares about a little load time? be patient, the eye candy is worth it

omg i cant get enough of layla’s beautiful eyes and cute little gap teeth, i love all of it!

this little girl is…interesting she is sweet and darling and cute. and then she’s not. and then she is. and then she REALLY isnt. apparently she’s go a case of the terrible two’s. i should have taken some images of her other side, but for now you can see the cute side of her beautiful face ooooooooh her beautiful face, she is so pretty!
